A beautiful, hand-painted pendant made from violin wood.
This gorgeous piece features an oval shaped piece of lightly coloured wood that originally came from an old, broken violin. This particular piece came from the ‘top’ part of the violin meaning that it is very light; this particular part of the violin resonates the sound played on the strings, meaning it has to be light in order to vibrate and amplify the sound. The wood also usually has a sweet brown glazing (this can still be seen in some of my other pieces using old violin wood!), but this has been sanded away to allow for me to paint on it.
The hand-painted design is that of a rose; more specifically, it has been painted in the style of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh rose. Mackintosh was a popular Scottish designer, artist and architect at the end of the 19th Century to the beginning of the 20th Century. He lived most of his life in Glasgow near the banks of the Clyde, watching the growth of imported products through the industrial revolution from all over the world. In particular, he loved the simplicity of Japanese designs, as well as more ‘modernist’ ideas, and very much brought this simple elegance into his artwork.
The Rennie Mackintosh rose is one of the most iconic pieces of his, and this pendant has been hand-painted with a red rose of his style, with three leaves and long, elegant lines.
This particular pendant has been set on a long black cord that measures 29 inches in length in total. No clasp currently has been put on the end of the cord, meaning you are able to tie it at the length you would like it. However, if you would prefer a clasp added on the end (similar to the ones on the chains of my other pieces), please just message me and I can do this.
