A gorgeous floral design pendant made from upcycling a vintage brooch.
This beautiful necklace features a stunning piece of Toledo ware that was originally a vintage brooch with a broken clasp. The brooch clasp has been removed and the main design set as a gorgeous pendant on an 18 inch, gold plated link chain. It features a lovely flower design, with two layers of petals extending from an off-centre faux pearl. A ring around the edges of the petals encompasses the piece.
Toledo ware uses a technique known as Damascening, in which layers of different metals, most commonly gold and silver, are set against a darkened background, which is usually oxidised steel. The technique has been dated back as long ago as the Middle Bronze Age, and was heavily used in Japan for decorating Katanas (Japanese swords). Toledo in Spain became a European hotspot for using a similar technique for producing these exquisite and often highly intricate designs, and the jewellery produced with these designs has always been very popular.
