*NOW MADE EXCLUSIVELY FROM GOTS CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON*
The arashi bandanas are one of my best-selling designs. I handmake these bandanas from premium quality organic cotton batiste and they are then hand dyed by the traditional arashi method. The bandanas are folded and wrapped
around a pole, then tightly bound before compressing the bandana tightly to one end of the pole.
I am offering four styles of this popular bandana. These variations are created by folding the cloth differently before winding or by twisting the cloth during compression. This listing is for the twisted variant.
The bandanas are then traditionally dyed by immersion in a dye bath. Historically in Japan the most common dye used was indigo. I use modern Procion MX fibre reactive dyes for this listing. These professional fibre reactive dyes give bold stable colours, they’re fade resistant and don’t require toxic chemical mordants.
All my items are ready to wear having been fully laundered. You are recommended to dry your bandanas flat, or in a tumble dryer. Pegging them to a line can distort shape. Avoid use of bleach or optical brightening agents with the bandanas. All my dyed items should be laundry safe, but you are advised to wash hand dyed items separately for the first few washes just until you are happy they won’t bleed.
Size: aprox 21 in by 21 in
Single stitched rolled hems
Care label stitched into hem.
Woven Gecko Shibori label on hem.
Various colours available.
Stripes can be produced in either a square or diagonal orientation. The broken lines of the twisted arashi variation, require extra time and skill hence the slightly higher prices.
Since switching to an entirely inhouse production method and upgrading to organic fairly traded fabric this is a luxury product and the price reflects this.
